Requirements
In order to rent a vehicle in Sweden you must be at least 18 years old, however the minimum age may vary depending on car category. You must have had your driver’s license for at least one year and it must be in the English language or accompanied by an International Drivers License. All vehicle occupants must wear a seatbelt at all times. Children who are under the age of 7 years must be placed in a child seat that is appropriate for their age and weight. Headlights must be turned on at all times, you could be fined as a result of not doing so.

Speed Limits
Swedish speed limits are: city 50 km/h (31mph), major roads 70 km/h (43mph) and highways 90 km/h (55 mph) or 110 km/h (68 mph). In congested areas a lower speed limit of 30 km/h (18mph) applies. Please abide by posted speed limit signs at all times.

Rules of the Road
Vehicles travel on the right hand side of the street and all vehicles must have a warning triangle that is to be placed 50-100 meters behind the vehicle when pulled to the side of the road and in need of assistance.

Gas and Diesel
You will find most gas stations are open from 7am to 10pm.

Tolls
The Stockholm congestion charge is the only toll in Sweden. Those driving in central Stockholm between the hours of 6:30am to 6:30pm will be subject to a toll ranging from $1.25-2.50USD each time with a max of approx 10 USD per day.

Parking
Metered on street parking is very popular throughout Swedish cities and usually takes place only on the right hand side of the street unless otherwise indicated.

Required Coverage
Fire and third party liability insurance is required for all rentals taking place in Sweden. For your benefit Kemwel has included both forms of insurance on all basic rental rates in Sweden. Third party liability insurance provides an unlimited amount of coverage for damages to property or injury to people outside of the rental vehicle. Fire insurance provides an unlimited amount of coverage for the rental vehicle in the event of a fire.

Optional Coverage
For rentals commencing in Sweden collision damage waiver (CDW) andtheft protection are optional, however Kemwel includes these two forms of insurance in all inclusive rental rates in Sweden. Most rental suppliers that we work with in Sweden will have a deductible that you are responsible for that can range from approximately $260-$880 USD for CDW and $195-$880 USD for theft. Personal accident insurance is available locally for about $4 USD per day and provides approximately $580 USD worth of death and disability coverage for the driver.
 

Rental Restrictions in Sweden

General Information
Most all of the vehicles rented in Sweden through Kemwel have the ability to travel through most Western European countries without any restrictions. Certain vehicle categories due to insurance regulations may have restrictions; these categories include luxury vehicles, large vans and automatics. Restricted Countries
Vehicles rented in Sweden through Kemwel cannot travel into the following countries: Albania, Bosnia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Moldova, Poland, Russia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Turkey and the Ukraine. Some specific vehicle categories may also be prohibited from travel into Italy.

One-Way Rentals
In Sweden domestic one-way rentals are available; many one-way rentals will have an additional fee to be paid locally. International one ways are also available and will incur a fee. Not all vehicles are allowed and minimum rental lengths may apply.
