Below you will find a detailed list of important things to keep in mind when renting and driving a vehicle in Slovenia.
Requirements
In order to rent a vehicle in Slovenia you must be at least 18 years old and some (not all) suppliers have a maximum age limit of 73 years and may have a fee for drivers over 70. All drivers are required to have had their driver’s license for a minimum of 2 years sometimes 3 years in some cases. All vehicle occupants are required to wear a seat belt at all times. Children who are smaller then 1.35 meters tall are required to be in a child restraint that is appropriate to their size and placed in the rear seat of the vehicle. Any child that is over 1.35 meters tall is allowed to travel in a vehicle using an adult safety belt, but if they are under the age of 12 they must sit in the back seat of the vehicle. Using a mobile phone while driving is strictly prohibited in Slovenia and police can impose on the spot fines to those who fail to oblige.
Speed Limits
The legal speed limits for Slovenia are as follows: Highways 130 km/h (80mph), major roads 100 km/h (62mph), minor roads 90 km/h (55mph), city and residential areas 50 km/h (31mph)

Gas and Diesel
Many of the gas stations throughout Slovenia are open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m., however stations close to the country’s board are usually open 24 hours. Credit cards are widely accepted at most stations and unleaded petrol diesel options area available.
Tolls
When traveling in Slovenia you will encounter various toll roads. Toll amounts are determined by the vehicle category and where you intend to get off the motorway. Toll amounts can range from $1 USD up to $20 USD.

Required Coverage
Third party liability is required for all rentals commencing in Slovenia and is included on all of Kemwel’s basic rental rates. This form of insurance will provide coverage to any damages to property or injury to people outside of the rental vehicle. In Slovenia fire insurance is included all basic rental rates unless otherwise specified.
Optional Coverage
For rentals taking place in Slovenia Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)and theft protection are optional and are included in all of Kemwel’s inclusive rental rates at an advance purchase discount. CDW is available locally for approximately $7-$18 USD per day depending on car rental supplier and car category. Theft protection is also available locally for approximately $7-$25 USD per day depending on car category and rental supplier. Many of the suppliers that we work with will still have a deductible that you will still be responsible for that ranges from $450-$2,615 USD for CDW and theft protection. Super CDW is a supplementary insurance that is available locally to help reduce the amount of the deductible, it costs about $10-$42 USD per day reducing the CDW deductible to as low as zero in some cases. Personal accident insurance can be purchase locally for about $5-$13 USD per day, which will provide death and disability coverage up to a monetary amount set by the car supplier that will cover the driver and passengers of the rental car. General Information
Many of the vehicles rented through Kemwel in Slovenia can travel throughout Western Europe without any restrictions. There are some vehicles; due to insurance regulations that may not be able to travel into certain countries some of the vehicles include luxury vehicles, automatic vehicles and vans. When planning your itinerary please take into consideration if it will be possible with the category of car you are planning to rent.
Restricted Countries
Vehicles rented in Slovenia through Kemwel cannot travel into or through the following countries without prior notification and approval from Kemwel and our suppliers: Africa (Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria etc) Albania, Bosnia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Turkey and the Ukraine.
