Best Beaches on the Kent Coast

England beach getaways may not be known worldwide, but more and more people are choosing England and Kent as their holiday destination for the beaches. The county is known as the “Garden of England” and has some of the most beautiful countryside, as well as coastline, in the UK. Located in the south east of England, the long coastline has both international and British charm in its seaside towns.

The Kent coastline is not only one of the most beautiful coasts in the UK, but it is also one of the safest with a large number of beaches achieving the safe and clean Blue Flag status. West Bay Beach

This sandy beach is surrounded by rocky areas and cliffs and has everything you would expect from a British beach. You can build sandcastles, go crabbing in the rock pools and stay until late to watch the beautiful sunset from the beach. Its Blue Flag status means it is perfectly safe for swimming and is also within walking distance of its quaint and modern town center.

The long stretch of sandy beach is right next to the only marina in the UK and the beautiful Royal Harbor, just under a 30 minute drive away from Dover. The Blue Flag beach has excellent and safe waters that are monitored by lifeguards throughout the summer seasons. The continental feel of the beach offers amusement arcades for children, restaurants with al fresco dining and deckchair and loungers for the beach. And like any good British seaside resort you can get buy fish and chips and ice cream on the seafront.

Located on the south-east coast between Dover and Ramsgate, Walmer Beach is over nine miles long. This beach isn’t sandy, like a lot of the beaches in the region it is in fact covered by shingle, valerian and poppies. You will, however, enjoy the traditional fishing boats, beautiful water and memorial bandstand that all feel like a true undiscovered British seaside resort. Stay in the nearby lovely resort of Kingsdown or beach town Deal for access to the beach.

One of the prettiest of Kent’s northern beaches, the 660-ft long sandy beach is great for swimming, exploring rock pools or just walking. From here you can also access Joss Bay, Kent’s best surfing beach, on foot during low tide. The Blue Flag beach has clean, safe water and is quieter than some of Kent’s other northern beaches. More adventurous beach goers can also surf and canoe at this beach.
 

St. Margaret’s Bay

This small bay is one of the most famous beaches in Kent, known for its proximity to the chalk-backed white cliffs of Dover. The water quality is very high and the beach is extremely popular with locals and tourists alike. Channel swimmers start their channel swim from the bay and the cliff above the bay and village is where the sun is supposed to first meet the UK every morning.
