Rome to Amalfi Coast Day Trip: Positano or Praiano Day Trips

Rome to Amalfi Coast Day Trips

Taking a vacation to the beautiful city of Rome is a dream come true. Visiting the famous ancient Roman architecture in the iconic city will always make for an unforgettable holiday in Italy. But did you know that by renting a car you can enhance your trip to Rome by taking a day trip to the breathtaking Amalfi Coast? The home of some of Italy’s best beaches, vineyards, and local food.

In just over three hours you can be in the heart of Southern Italy, on a Rome to Amalfi Coast day trip. The only decision you need to make is whether you should take a Praiano or Positano day trip, or these other incredible Italian getaway options:

Positano

Positano, Italy

The Cliffside village of Positano is easily reachable from Rome by car in just over three hours, and arriving in the pretty village will be well worth the drive. Explore the town’s narrow streets that are lined with the brightly colored houses and buildings – a feature that makes the region so recognizable. From Positano you can take hiking trails to the other towns and beaches, or spend the day enjoying the local boutique shops and cafes and getting to grips with its medieval history.

Praiano

Praiano, Italy

Part of the famous Amalfi Coast line, Praiano is a relaxing village with a traditional culture just a 20 minute drive from Positano. The village has two thriving church squares, San Gennaro and San Luca, as well as bars and restaurants that are popular with young people of the town. Spend the day exploring the cute pebble beaches, particularly at Gavitella Beach, which has the longest days of sun slight on the Amalfi Coast.

Ravello

Ravello, Italy

A day at the beautiful village of Ravello in the Amalfi Coast is well worth the drive. Set in the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast 365 meters above sea level, the town is brimming with historic sites, including a 13th century villa and a medieval-style estate. Try to head to Ravello for the annual Ravello Festival, which takes place every summer.

Sorrento

Sorrento, Italy

Facing the Bay of Naples, Sorrento is a larger coastal town in the Amalfi Coast with a busy marina and some of the most spectacular views on the coast. Spend sun-filled days sipping iced coffee in the famous Piazza Tasso, which is lined with pretty little cafes. Like so many Amalfi towns, Sorrento’s main historic center is still reminiscent of its medieval past, with narrow alleyways and pretty churches, often the subject of many explorations through the area.

Atrani

Atrani, Italy

The small village of Atrani is located at the base of a river valley, and is the neighbor of the larger Amalfi – this trip is great because you get to see both towns in one day. Atrani is definitely the younger and smaller sibling to Amalfi, with its own identity and traditions, it’s the perfect place to get away from the crowds. Atrani does, however, also have two very defining features – the Collegiata di Santa Maria with its yellow and green dome and its striking bell tower. Discover this charming village and its traditions after just a few hours of driving from Rome.
