Original date of publication: September 3, 2020

Costa Rica Cheap Rental Cars

Kemwel - On September 1 Costa Rica became the latest country to welcome estranged American tourists from 12 states with low COVID-19 transmission rates. The Central American nation originally extended the invitation specifically to six northeastern states with “low outbreaks” including Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Vermont. Soon after came Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C.

“Travelers from these 12 states are allowed because they currently have an epidemiological condition similar or lower levels of contagion to those of Costa Rica,” said Tourism Minister Gustavo J. Segura.

Sources say that Colorado, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts will reportedly join the ranks on September 15 as Costa Rica tries to sustain its tourism industry. Safe to say that more Americans will be searching for Costa Rica car rentals in the upcoming months!

The latest tally of coronavirus cases in Costa Rica surpassed 29,600 as of August 18, according to the US Embassy in San Jose.

Is tourism big in Costa Rica?

Known for its ecotourism and cloud rainforest, Costa Rica is one of the most trending Latin American travel destinations that attracts an average of over 1.7 million tourists every year. From this number, Americans represented the most tourists with over 1.3 million in 2019.

Considering that tourism in Costa Rica also constitutes for 7 percent of the national GDP and employs 13 percent of the national workforce, Segura reassures that his administration is taking the necessary step to revitalize this sector.

"We are taking very gradual and carefully analyzed steps in the direction of the revitalization of tourism that is very necessary for the protection of the social progress that Costa Rica has achieved through this industry," added Segura.

What do Americans need to travel to Costa Rica?

Travelers won’t encounter issues as long as they have insurance and can prove their state residency with a government-issued ID. Another requirement enforces tourists to complete an online health questionnaire in addition to showing negative test results taken within 48 hours of scheduled arrival.

Other countries currently permitted to travel in Costa Rica include Australia, Canada, China, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, the United Kingdom, as well as European Union members.
