Many of the rental car suppliers that we work with in Ireland have minimum and maximum rental requirements. You must be at least 21 years old to rent a vehicle in Ireland and many suppliers have a maximum rental age ranging from 69-75 depending on the supplier. Drivers between the ages of 21-23 and 69-75 may incur an additional fee locally. You must have had your drivers license at least 1 year, however some rental suppliers require you to have had your license for at least 2 years. The use of a cell phone while driving is strictly prohibited unless using a hands free device.
Children between the ages of 4 and 12 years or smaller then 150 cm are prohibited from traveling in the front seat of the vehicle and need to be in a child seat. Infants and children up to the age of 3 must be in a child seat. All children who are required to be in a child seat need to be in a seat that is appropriate for their age and seat.
Standard speed limits in Ireland: city 50 km/h, major roads 80 km/h and highways 120 km/h.

For car rentals commencing in Ireland fire and third party liability are mandatory. Kemwel has included these two forms of insurances on all rentals taking place in Ireland. Third party liability covers damages to people and property outside of the rental vehicle and with most suppliers will cover an unlimited amount. Fire insurance covers the rental vehicle in the event of a fire and with most rental suppliers covers an unlimited amount.
Collision damage waiver (CDW) and Theft protection are optional for rentals commencing in Ireland. These two forms of insurance are included in all Kemwel’s inclusive rental rates in Ireland. It is highly recommended that you purchase CDW and theft with Kemwel, as most credit cards will not cover rentals commencing in Ireland. Most car rental suppliers will have a deductible ranging from $1100 USD up to $3000 USD depending on the car category that you will still be responsible for in the event of collision or theft of the vehicle. Super CDW is a supplementary insurance that can be purchased locally with many suppliers to help reduce the amount of the deductible. In Ireland the cost of super CDW can range from $14-$56 USD per day depending on supplier and car category. Personal Accident Insurance is available with some suppliers locally for a cost of $7-$9 USD per day depending on the car category.
Most all of the vehicles rented in Ireland through Kemwel have no restriction from traveling anywhere in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Certain car categories including luxury vehicle, automatics and large vans may have travel restrictions due to insurance regulations.
