The event has three levels of difficulty and is featured in the Ernest Hemingway novel Fiesta: The Sun Also Rises.

The village of Ribes de Freser showcases the local breed, the gos d'atura, (sheepdog) in an annual competition to test their sheepherding skills. In a span of merely six minutes, the dogs are ordered to stop on command, lead the sheep to the shepherd, and guide the sheep into a fenced enclosure.
