The Museum of History celebrates Christmas with a "szopka" or nativity scene competition, a tradition in the city since 1943. If you miss the holiday season, don't worry! The nativity scenes are on display until February.

This festival, held throughout Poland is traditionally a time of big time food and fun. A typical Polish Shrovetide meal could consist of raw herring covered in some kind of oil. Similar to "Fat Tuesday," it is celebrated with the same amount of energy in Poland as it is anywhere else in the world.
