Re-enactment of the Battle of Waterloo

Each June, over 1000 people dress in full combat attire to participate in the re-enactment of the Battle of Waterloo. The first two days of the event allow guests to observe daily camp life, weaponry and the changing of the guards, while the proceeding two days are dedicated strictly to battle. However, there is also a historical path for children and a festive emporium of Napoleonic objects as well.

Each August, the banks of the River Meuse are scattered with flea markets and live entertainment while excited teams of jousters in medieval regalia battle it out with lances and wooden shields on the water. The last challenger to fall victim to the river is declared the winner.

This event is accompanied by a half-marathon, a smaller 3k road race, and a childs marathon in order to accommodate all ages and abilities.

This dance show is compiled by the Belgian choreographer, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, and offers an arrangement of live music to the mélange of older and newer dance pieces. Shows are performed throughout Bruges, so you will have a number of opportunities to catch a performance.
