As Christmas approaches, the village of Reith near Kitzbühel becomes the world's largest advent calendar. A newly decorated window is presented by the townspeople each night, displaying a beautiful array of color. The decorations are traditionally displayed until January 6.

Usher in the New Year in one of the most opulent settings in Europe, the Hofburg Imperial Palace in Vienna. Don your finest tuxedo or ball gown and enjoy dinner in one of the various halls, or show up later for dancing in the decadently decorated state rooms. At midnight, the festivities are far from over. As the bells of Saint Stephen's Cathedral ring in the New Year, the Viennese Operetta Gala commences in the Grand Festival Hall and continues until the early morning.

The extravagant event is held at the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein where tickets are hard to come by. Don’t fret if you can’t make the New Year’s day show because it is televised all over the world. The event got its start in 1939 and has featured some of the greatest conductors of our time.
