Day of the Mules

This holiday, also known as Jueves de Corpus, extends back to the 16th century. Its procession follows the Day of Holy Trinity and features children in traditional attire parading hand crafted, wooden mules. Craftsmen throughout Mexico flock to this event to show their gratitude and enjoy the music and special vendimia wine.

International Mariachi and Charrería Festival
Guadalajara, Jalisco
August 24 - September 1, 2012

Mariachi bands from around Mexico and all over the world visit Guadalajara as this part of the country is considered to be the cultural capital of mariachi music. Once here, the bands accompany Catholic mass, while parades and competitions are presented in demonstration of their skills. Plenty of food and drink is made available for visitors attending.

Festival of Balloons & Adventure

This event hosts a plethora of spine-tingling adventures that thrill and entice visitors of all ages! The Day of the Dead

This holiday can be traced back to the indigenous people of Mexico, over thousands of years of history. On each day, the natives celebrate the dead with food and drink. Candy skulls and other death themed crafts are sold, while altars and offerings are left in cemeteries and in the homes of the recently departed. The main celebrations are held on the second day, with animated festivals and joyous music.

Mexican folk art is preserved at the annual Maestros Del Arte Fair, held within the illustrious Chapala Yacht Club. Here, the town supports the artists with housing and food while the artists exhibit their crafts free of charge. This tradition brings the artists and surrounding community together as well as contributes to the survival of Mexican folk art.

Taxco, the heart of Mexico's silver industry, plays host to the National Silver Fair. Though the mineral is no longer actively mined, the town is famous for its production. During this fair, you will find countless silver shops and workshops displaying the smith's wares while they compete for the National Silversmith award. The event culminates with the crowning of the Silver Queen.
